We can likely offer special testing for the at-risk condition(s) on your selected donor. If you order special testing, results typically take between 4-6 weeks to complete and there is an additional fee. We do want you to be able to use the donor once results come back negative, so a vial purchase is required at the time as he might sell out while we wait for results. In the unlikely event, the donor results show that you and the donor are both positive for the same condition, a full refund for the vial(s) you purchased will be offered. We request that you leave the donor vial(s) stored with Fairfax Cryobank until the results are completed to be eligible for any refunds or exchanges if needed. Providing a copy of your testing results is helpful to make sure we are testing for the correct gene in the donor.
If you are still flexible on donor choice, there may be donors on our list who already tested negative for that gene(s). You can check to see if that is the case by using our genetic filter on the donor search. The preferred filter is by gene name as the same condition can be called by different names across labs. You can also add other traits that matter to you before you do the final search. Only donors with available vials who have already tested negative for that gene(s) will be presented in the results. Remember that these donors may be carriers for other genetic conditions and you will need to make sure you (or the egg source) are tested negative for these before using that donor.
Our genetic counselor and genetic assistant are available to help coordinate testing and help you select a suitable donor. Reach out to us at 800-338-8407 with your requests, and be sure and share your genetic testing results and preferred donors when making your request if applicable.
