Will you test a donor for the expanded panel if it has not already been done?

We will test donors for the conditions a pregnancy is at risk for, specifically those conditions for which the recipient (or egg source) has been found to be a genetic carrier. We do not test a donor for an entire expanded panel on request. The donor vials have already been used by other recipients, some of whom may be pregnant or have embryos. But if there is a medical indication for testing (recipient/egg source is a known carrier for a condition the donor has not been tested for) we will make every effort to coordinate that test with you. Please reach out to us to coordinate testing at 800-338-8407.

Remember, if you have had an expanded genetic screening panel completed yourself, then the only important conditions to test the donor for are the ones for which you are positive. Conditions for which you already tested negative do not require donor testing. Even if he is a carrier, your negative carrier result makes any future pregnancy very low risk. For the recessive conditions, both the egg and sperm source must be carriers before a pregnancy is at risk.
